Models on stage during the fashion show at the launch of the UZI clothing line
Saturday, May 1, 2016 marked a historical moment for the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement (InPDUM) as the organization launched their revolutionary line of clothing called UZI: A Thread of Freedom, and introduced Nfiniti Speed Dating to St. Louis, based on a model laid out by Black Star Industries.
The UZI line was launched at a fashion show in St. Louis for the African community.
UZI is a Swahili word that means “thread of freedom” and is InPDUM’s biggest project for economic development to date. To make UZI what it is today, InPDUM has rebranded what fashion should look like in revolutionary sense.
This consists of scouting out unique pieces of gently used clothing as well as receiving donated items, and vamping them into something new.
UZI’s customers have the option of sending in their denim items and having them customized using tie-dye methods, special cuts and styles named after our African Martyrs.
Economic development is very important to the African Liberation Movement as politics and economics are one. That is why InPDUM worked extremely hard along with the office of Deputy Chair, the IEC, the entire St. Louis InPDUM comrades, models and volunteers to make this event successful.
The Economic Development Coordinator, Adisa Dokubo along with the economic development committee took the launch of UZI very seriously. The ultimate goal is to build sustainable income for InPDUM.
In our efforts to bring the African working class back into a political life, InPDUM gave a political education lesson to the models during our rehearsal. They expressed unity with the ultimate goal of using UZI as a tool to reach Africans.
